Resourceful Solutions to Energy Challenges

Landis Homes Retirement Community & Jackson Elementary School

Lititz, PA

ARM provided a detailed hydrogeologic study, test well drilling oversight, and thermal conductivity testing services for a series of six individual 30-ton (1 Ton=12,000 Btu/hr) ground source geothermal systems for the proposed Landis Retirement Community.  ARM worked with the client’s contractor to develop preliminary plans for a closed- loop geothermal well field at the site.  In addition, ARM provided geophysical consulting services that indicated the locations of specific areas at the site that were prone to sinkhole formation and potential drilling hazards.  ARM’s completion report included a cost comparison of installing open-loop, closed-loop and standing-column systems at the site.  Completion of the closed-loop geothermal system is expected during the Spring 2010.

ARM provided a detailed hydrogeologic study and cost-benefit analysis for a site in an urban setting for a proposed 300-ton ground source geothermal system.  ARM worked with the client’s architect and mechanical engineering contractor to develop preliminary plans for a closed-loop geothermal well field at the site.  ARM contracted one of its partner drilling firms and completed two test wells that indicated that subsurface conditions at the site were not suitable for a closed-loop system due to the thermal characteristics of the thick overburden at the site.  The client chose to build a conventional HVAC system for the project based upon ARM’s recommendation.
